This is a story about a boy who always wished he was a giant. He dreamed about it often, and he truly enjoyed those dreams. That dream became a reality one day. He was sitting in the park and wished and wished and wished he could grow. Just then, everything around him seemed to shrink. Cars, houses, buildings, they all soon became toy sized to the now giant boy. He stood up and excitedly scanned the neighborhood where he lived. Looking at his pal Dennis' house, he noticed someone in the back yard. It was his pal's mother!
As 10 year old Billy looked down at his pal’s mom, she looked no bigger than his pinky finger. He was about 65 feet tall at this point and his growth had stopped. Gazing down at the tiny woman, she seemed to be dozing off in the lounge chair next to their pool. Billy reached down with his enormous hand to pick her up. He slid his finder behind the small of her back and his thumb was covering her stomach. Mrs. Reynolds suddenly opened her eyes, not sure what was happening. The huge warm pressure around her midsection was more than she could bear. She screamed in pain as she was lifted up into the air. The 10 year old giant boy had her between his thumb and forefinger at her midsection being careful not to accidentally pinch the life out of her. Fortunately he realized how frail the tiny life was he held between his enormous digits. He had no intention of hurting anyone. He opened his hand palm up causing the helpless woman to tumble into the center of his palm in a little heap.
She laid there on her back looking up trying to process what was happening. Propping herself up on her hands and still looking up, there bigger than a billboard was the face of Billy, the next door neighbor boy. Looking down at what she was on, the surface was warm and somewhat pliable. When she looked out at what appeared to be fingers, each much larger than her entire body, she realized she was lying in a giant hand – Billy’s hand! How could this be? The boy giggled as he looked into his palm at the tiny helpless woman. Mrs. Reynolds held her head in her hands and screamed as she looked up. Billy was having the time of his life.
Other neighbors were just coming out of their houses to see what all the commotion was. What they saw was something beyond comprehension. 10 year old Billy was an enormous giant and was holding something or someone in his hand! With the tip of his finger, he gently touched her shoulder. She was so tiny and frail looking. She then fainted and went limp in his hand. Billy felt the tiny body plop down on her back. He gently lowered his palm to the ground and with his fingertip, he carefully rolled her off onto the lawn hoping she was alright. A few of the neighbors ran to her cautiously looking up, tending to her.
Billy’s attention turned to a car pulling into a nearby driveway, the driver unaware of what was happening. It was Mrs. Noreen, his other pal Ricky’s mom. Ricky was next to her in the passenger seat. Billy reached down and picked up the tiny toy sized car. The two of them were suddenly terrified at the sensation of the car being lifted up into the air by some unseen force.
"What is going on here?" She thought.
Billy set the car in his palm and looked through the windshield. There to his delight was Mrs. Noreen and Ricky. She was gripping the steering wheel and looking out, too frightened to even scream. Ricky was looking out wide - eyed. Billy grinned as their eyes met. Just then she let out a shriek of terror. Billy chuckled at the tiny mouselike squeaks emanating from inside the car. He carefully set it back down into the driveway being careful to keep it upright.
As people started to come to grips with what was actually happening, some ran back into their houses in fear. Others were on their cell phones, some were taking videos of the giant boy hoping they were keeping a safe distance. Looking down at Mrs. Noreen’s car, he watched as she exited the vehicle and quickly made her way into the house. Ricky just stood on the front lawn looking up with his mouth open. "Billy! How'd you get so big?!""
He decided to have some fun. Kneeling down, he tapped on the roof with his forefinger. The shingles were warm to the touch. Mrs. Noreen looked up wondering what the boy was going to do. The house offered no protection whatsoever. She realized that. Billy bent down and with his head sideways, looked through the front window to see if he could see her. There she was, cowering in fear as she looked out at his huge grinning face. She then ran into the hallway and out of the boy’s sight.
He giggled and tapped on the roof some more. “Come out, come out where ever you are!” he said in a playfully taunting tone of voice. “If you don’t, I’m going to take the roof off and get you.”
Realizing he was fully capable of this, she wasn’t sure what to do. Just then, she heard the four corners of the roof ripping free of the structure, completely exposing her and the inside of the house to the afternoon sky. Billy looked down into the little doll sized house. There was Mrs. Noreen in the corner of the bedroom, cowering and screaming as she looked up. Billy chuckled and reached down with his hand, completely engulfing her entire body in it. As she tried to struggle and fight off his enormous digits, it was of course futile. This only served to amuse the boy more. He enjoyed feeling the tiny woman writhing and struggling in his hand. She continued to scream and plead with him to stop and put her down.
Being just a boy and always having to do what he was told by grown ups was something he never liked. Now things were different. He was the one in charge. Still, he was a good boy and started to feel bad about what he was doing. These were his neighbors. And even though they seemed so small to the boy, it dawned on him that they were still human beings and he really had no right to handle them like they were little toy dolls.
Just then another car came down the street. It was his mother and father! What would they do when they saw their son?
