Shrinking Man (book) moment--Scott is one or two sevenths of an inch tall, facing the spider. So small he can hear it scream. "The spider tried to leap at him...The pin jerked it back; the hideous screeching knifed into Scott's brain again. He couldn't stand it...the pin was slick with blood..." After stabbing the spider several times it weakens and the screeching stops (but it's not dead yet). Quite small. In the movie he's an inch tall or so, fighting what was really a tarantula. But in the book he's so small that maybe one inch seems more like 20 to 35 feet...
Shrinking Man (R. Matheson) book moment. When Scott meets Clarice, he--and she--are both only 18 inches tall. Scott has been left alone in the car while Louise and Beth (daughter) go to carnival. He decides to go in. "The only trouble is that he couldn't open the door. It was hard enough to push one of the front seats forward and clamber over it. It was impossible for him to get the door handles up. He kept jerking at them, angrier and angrier until he kicked the door and butted it with his shoulder." So he rolls down the window and makes his way out, hanging briefly onto a door handle.
I especially like the second fragment, I wish I was so small like he's there. So utterly itty bitty that normal sized people look like a landscape. I only hope I could find someone caring and gentle to keep me safe.
